Kenya Building Research Centre (KBRC) launch of strategic plan 2017 – 2022 on Tuesday 13th March, 2018

Launch of Strategic plan 2017 – 2022.

The timing of the strategic plan launch and choice of participants was of significance to the entire building and construction sector, more so as with the current focus of affordable housing within the “Big Four” of the transformation agenda of this Nation.

Kenya Building Research Centre (KBRC) has been in existence since 1957. At inception, the centre acted as the sole custodian of building sector resource and information outlet. The Institution complemented the role of our Universities, specifically as:

A library of manufacturer’s trade catalogues and Literature;
A library of samples of building materials; and
A Technical Reference Library.
Over the years, the institution has evolved and delved into building research services to cater for the needs of the industry including realization of:

Affordable materials;
Efficient construction technologies;
Environmentally-friendly building materials and techniques;
Information dissemination; and
Employment creation especially for the vulnerable groups.
The Strategic plan will without doubt fill the void which over the years has hampered operations of the Centre impacting negatively on the research momentum. The Strategic Plan 2017 – 2022 being has a significant contribution in steering implementation of the agenda for Kenya in relation to the Global, Regional and National commitments.

The Constitution of Kenya 2010 Article 43(1)(b) provides for the right to adequate housing and reasonable standards of sanitation; and The Kenya Vision 2030 underscores the significance of Research to the Country’s GDP with the capacity to change the lives of millions of Kenyans for the better. With the launch of KBRC’s Strategic Plan, the centre should steer building research geared towards sustainable development.
